TMP is working in association with MSR Design out of Minneapolis on the Central and East Branch Libraries. MSR is a nationally recognized firm specializing in the design of 21st-century libraries.
The new Central branch will replace the current library that was built in 1966 to serve a population of 30,000. Today, Norman has 115,000 citizens and library services have changed dramatically. The new library will feature large meeting, study, and class rooms, a local history and genealogy area, outdoor courtyards and roof terraces, new technologies and a collection of 270,000 items. It will be located just north of Andrews Park and west of the railroad tracks at Acres Street and James Garner Blvd.
The new East Branch will expand library services to a fast growing portion of the population. It will feature flexible space for meetings and study, children and teen spaces, outdoor areas, new technologies and a collection of over 20,000 items. It will be located on Alameda between 24th and 36th Avenue SE.
